Name change
The FabMSTIC becomes the MASTIC fablab. Why this change? The MSTIC in the name comes from Mathematics, Sciences and Technologies of Information and Communication, in fact the fablab has a specialty in these fields given its history and its affiliation. Even if it is generalist and welcomes users from all fields.
The pronunciation of MSTIC has always been problematic. For this, we decided to transform the name into fablab MASTIC, Mathematics Applied, Sciences and Technologies of Information and Communication, easier to pronounce, clearly applied maths, and for manufacturing mastic is always useful.
History
The MASTIC fablab is the first significant fablab on the Saint Martin d'Herès campus of the University of Grenoble. The development of fablab MASTIC was motivated by the successful experiences of two micro-fablabs: the AIR platform and the ENSIMAG fablab led respectively by Didier Donsez and Vivien Quema. These two platforms have come together to form the FabMSTIC platform. The workshop is a platform of the Grenoble Computer Science Laboratory (LIG). Since its creation, the platform has been designed to be open to the entire university community and facilitate multidisciplinary projects. The MASTIC fablab is also a member of the fablab network of the international association: https://www.fablabs.io/labs/fabmastic
The Public
The MASTIC fablab is a university fablab. It welcomes students and teachers from the different components and engineering schools of the Université Grenoble Alpes Community (Ensimag, Polytech, Ocellia, UFR IM2AG, ENSAG, etc.), researchers and doctoral students from different laboratories (LIG, TIMC-IMAG, Gipsa, etc.), student entrepreneurs (Pépite Osez) and anyone from the university community who wants to work on projects. The MASTIC fablab aims to be a place of exchange where all of its users can meet, discuss and work together on common projects.
Personal (non-professional) projects are allowed but only on Thursday afternoons. See FabBidouille.
