We invite people from diverse areas with diverse expertise to develop shape-changing
interfaces (SCIs) and/or explore programmable soft materials using a proposed toolkit.
-
Time: March 25 to March 28, 2025 (Here is the detailed agenda).
-
Location: Fablab MASTIC, MUSE, 80 allée Ampère, 38400 Saint-Martin-d’Hères
-
Requirements: Bring your laptop. We provide all additional material and two coffee breaks (morning and afternoon, drinks and food) every day.
Please feel free to tell us if you have any questions, and please fill in this google form to tell us your participation.
Workshop Goals:
• Develop together SCIs applications in programmable soft materials.
• Gather suggestions and feedback to evaluate and improve the proposed toolkit.
• Foster discussions on challenges and opportunities in SCIs applications development.
Why you should participate:
• You will learn how new programmable soft materials work, particularly Baromorph, based on which the proposed toolkit is built.
• You will learn how to use Formlabs to do 3d printing in resin.
• You will learn how to prototype SCIs in programmable soft materials and build and test your own SCIs.
• Your insights will help us to lower the technological threshold for people including but not limited to HCI researchers and DIY lovers, to develop novel SCI applications usi new materials.
Who Should Attend:
Anyone who is interested in developing Shape-changing Interfaces (SCIs) applications or exploring programmable soft materials.

Agenda
-
Day 1 (March 25th): Morning session as an introduction to SCIs, the new materials Baromorph, and learn to design SCIs with our software, and the afternoon session with a focus group discussion for the design process.
-
Day 2 (March 26th): Learn to 3D print with FormLab resin 3d printer and the SCIs fabrication process (around 1h30) and print your own mold.
-
Day 3 (March 27th) and Day 4 (March 28th): Find a slot of 4h to come to fabricate your designed SCI, and by the end (3 pm-4 pm) of Day 4, we will have a focus group discussion for the fabrication process.
Coffee breaks with drinks and foods every morning and afternoon
